AfterreturningtoChicago,RoneventuallyjoinedJazzFriends,thehousebandattheCottonClub.Heplayedthereforfiveyearswhilealsoworkinginsuchgroupsasthe17piecepopbandGentlemenofLeisure.Broadeninghishorizons,healsoplayedandrecordedwiththeworldbeatbandDhamba8. ItwasthroughhismanyyearsofplayingattheCottonClubthatRonmetactor/comicBernieMac.RontookontheroleofhornsectionleaderfortheMacMenforBernie'sHBOvarietyshow"MidnightMacwithBernieMac,"writingandarrangingvarioushornpartsandbackingupsuchartistsasChakaKhan,GeorgeDuke,BrianMcKnight,SugarBlue,SheilaEandBrownStone.Andheformedhisownhornsection,theChicagoStormHorns,whichwentontojointheclassicoldschoolfunkbandtheOhioPlayers. RonwasanearlyrecruittoLiquidSoulandrecordedonallfouroftheband'sCDs,including"Here'stheDeal,"whichwasGrammynominatedin2001forBestContemporaryJazzAlbum.InOctober1997,RonreleasedhisfirstCDasasoloartist,"CoolWork,"consistingmostlyoforiginalsongsandarrangementswrittenbyhimandlongtimefriendSprightE.SimpsonIII.OnhisCoolWorktour,hepromotedthediscbyplayinginsuchMidwesternclubsastheCubbyBear,theNote,theBackroomandtheGreenRoom.Ron'ssecondCDasaleader,"CanYouHearMe?",wasreleasedin2003andcanbepurchasedontheBuyCDspage. Inrecentyears,Ronhasbeenincreasinglyactiveinthestudio.WorkingwithrenownedproducerandkeyboardistRamseyLewis,heisfeaturedontheacclaimedcontemporaryjazzCDUrbanKnightsIV.HealsohasafeaturedroleonUrbanKnightsPresentstheChicagoProjectproducedbyFrayneLewis,plusheplayedonMikeManson'slatestCD.StaytunedforTwoManCrew,aspecialupcomingCDfeaturingoriginalcompositionsbyRonandLiquidSoul'sdrummer,VictorBaker.
