In1993,TheJimmyRogersBandtouredEurope,wheretheymadeastoptoperformattheBBC.In'94theyperformedattheW.C.HandyAwardsandin'95theyappearedontheConanO'Brienshow,aswellastheChicagoBluesFestival. Jimmymadehissolorecordingdebutin1995.TheselftitleddisconBlueSealRecordsfeatures12fineoriginalsandoneofhisdad'stunes.In1993,however,hewouldmeetthepeoplewhowouldputhisrecordingcareerintohighgear.DuringthesessionsforBluebirdforAnalogueProductions,withtheJimmyRogersBand,hemetProducerJohnKoenigandheadofAcousticSounds,ChadKassem.KoenigsawtheJimmyD.LanebandatB.B.King'sClubinUniversalCityandwasfloored.KoenigandKassemgottogetherandJimmyrecordedLongGoneforAnalogueProductionsin1995,atOceanWayStudiosinLosAngeles,whichwasreleasedin1997. Hissecondrecording,LongGone,showcasesJimmy’sguitarvirtuosityonoriginalslike"Whiskey,""OhWhatAFeeling"andthetitlecut.TheHendrix/Vaughninfluencecanbeheardinhissearingguitarsolosbutlistenandyouwillhearhisfeetarefirmlyrootedintheblues.HisversionsofJohnLeeHooker's"BoomBoom"andJimmyRogers"I'minLove"showhisdeeplovefor,andrespectofbluetradition. Lanecanstretchoutonhisown,butisequallyathomeinasupportmodeascanbeheardbycomparinghisplayingonLongGonetoBluebird.LaneplaysonandcoproducedHubertSumlin'sIKnowYou,alsoonAnalogueProductions,whereashestates"YoucanhearHubert'sguitar,notsomeguywithhisampcrankedup."Infact,itwasHubertSumlinwhogaveJimmyhisfirstStratin1986.
