HisearlypubliceducationwasintheWinstonSalemandForsythCountySchools. CurtisthenfurtheredhiseducationatWinstonSalemStateUniversity. HecontinuedhismusicaltrainingatJuliardSchoolofMusicinNewYork. Thebasketballplayer,EarlMonroe,setuparecordlabelandonavisittoWinstonSalem,Curtisgotintouch. Thepairhadbothattendedthesameschoolandthepairstruckuparelationshipthatled,viaademotaperecording,toCurtissigningtoEarl'sPrettyPearllabel. Thedebutsinglewas'IWantYou(AllTonight)',licensedtoRCAintheU.K.,becameaTop50hitin1983. Thefollowup'IWantYourLovin'(JustALittleBit)'wasreleasedintheUKfortheLondonimprintin1985,reachingtheTop15slotlaterthatyear. IntheStateshehadanR&Bhitwithhisversionof'WeAllAreOne'. JimmyCliff'sacheivedsomesuccesswiththesongatthesametime. CurtisthensignedtoAtlantic,hecollaboratedwithNonaHendryxforhisdebutalbum. HisfirstAtlanticsinglewas'Chillin'Out',whichreachedtheU.K.chartsreachingtheTop60in1986. CurtisalsofrontedanalbumofsongsforB.B.&Q.,(somethingthatheremaineduncreditedfor). Thegroup'sKaeWilliamsJnr.(alsooncepartofthegroupBreakwater)collaboratedwithhimon1987'sdebutalbum'CurtisHairston'. Thatalbumcontainedthesong'TheMorningAfter',popularintheU.K. ContibutionstothesetcameviathemusicalskillsofAlysonWilliams,JocelynBrown,BarbaraPenningtonandNonaHendryx. LutherVandrosshadsungbackgroundvocalsforCurtisHairstonduringhiscareer,additionally. CurtisrecordedwiththejazzgroupReadyForRealityontheir1990NextPlateaurelease'ReadyForReality'. Alltold,GregRadfordwasthewriterandproducerof90%ofCurtis'songs. Throughouthiscareer,Curtiswasplaguedwithdiabetes,relocatingfromhisbaseinNewYorkbacktoWinstonSalemashishealthweakened. CurtispassedawayinJanuary1996,attheN.C.BaptistHospital,WinstonSalem,NorthCarolina. Hewasjust34yearsold.
