BornthedaughterofDvoraundAbrahamSchneider(thenameisGermanandmeanstailor),shestudiedpianobeforestartingtoperformasasingerinvenuesinNewEnglandandNewYork. Between1978and1984sheachievedsomesuccessasarocksingerinGermany;hersongRock'n'RollGypsyevenreachedthetop10recordcharts.1980shetouredasanopenerwiththeGermanrocklegendUdoLindenberg.SheplayedoneoftheleadsandtheloveinterestofEddieWilsoninthe1983filmEddieandtheCruisers,whichhassincegainedahugecultfollowing,especiallyinunusualplacesforanAmericanfilmsuchasNepal,RussiaandespeciallyGermany,whereSchneiderhadnamerecognition. In1987shebeganheractingcareerattheTheaterdesWestensinBerlinplayingtheSallyBowlesinthemusicalCabaret.From1995to1998sheperformedasNormaDesmondinSunsetBoulevardbyAndrewLloydWebber.Since1998shemainlyperformschansonsandsongswithlyricspiecesbyKurtWeill.SheworkedwithEberhardSchoenerontherecordingoftheShortOpera(1996)andonthegoodbyesongfortheTVseriesDerrick.From1999to2001sheperformedasEvaPeróninthemusicalEvitaattheBadHersfelderFestspiele.
